Vision
A world where technical engineering, ethics, and equity are recognized as interconnected, and where techno-social issues are addressed by individuals of diverse academic backgrounds through interdisciplinary dialogue and critical reflection.
Mission
We want to create an interdisciplinary community that engages with topics relating to cyber ethics*, digital rights**, and other fields that focus on personal and societal relationships with technology. Through projects and discussion, we wish to empower individuals of all academic backgrounds to mobilize their education and skills towards confronting techno-social*** issues.
Terminology
*Cyber Ethics is the philosophic study of ethics pertaining to computers, encompassing user behavior and what computers are programmed to do, and how this affects individuals and society.
**Digital rights are those human rights and legal rights that allow individuals to access, use, create, and publish digital media or to access and use computers, other electronic devices, and telecommunications networks.
***Techno-social: Refers to the circumstance that the web cannot be defined without connection to the human social realm.

Cyber Ethics & Digital Rights
The portfolio is built on a desire to challenge the notion that engineering work and technological development are apolitical disciplines. We hope to demonstrate that the development of technology is an inherently political practice that requires input from legal scholars, philosophers, activists, and technical experts, among many others.
We hope to demonstrate that critical reflection is necessary at every stage of technical development in order to make conscious decisions about the assumptions and values that are being embodied in the work of STEM fields.
